‘Octomom’ Natalia Suleman is officially a grandmother after son welcomes baby girl

Natalia Suleman, formerly known as Nadya Suleman, had some exciting news to share with her followers over the weekend.

The 49-year-old “Octomom,” who famously gave birth to the first surviving octuplets in history 15 years ago, took to Instagram on Sunday night to reveal that one of her son’s gave birth to his first ever child.

“Thank you my son and my lovely daughter in law for giving us this beautiful gift!” Suleman wrote in the caption, sharing a photo of a baby’s foot. “We are so blessed that she is a new addition to our family!”

Natalia went on to confirmed she now has a granddaughter. “Baby girl you are so very loved and we can’t wait to watch you grow!! 8/30/24,” she wrote, also confirming the baby’s date of birth.

Many fans and followers took to the comments section to congratulate the first-time grandmother.

“Welcome to the club!!” said one user, while another one shared that she too became a grandmother recently. “Congratulations,” they wrote. “I just became a first time grandma and boy is it amazing.”

Natalia’s son, Joshua, is believed to be the new father

While Natalia didn’t directly say who the father was, it’s worth noting that she recently called one of her son’s, Joshua, a “devoted husband and soon to be father” in an Instagram post for his birthday.

“I am so proud of the man you are becoming,” she wrote on Aug. 20, 10 days before the baby was born. “You are smart, funny, hard working, loyal, humble, and now a devoted husband and soon to be father.”

Joshua, who turned 21 years old last month, is Natalia’s third-oldest child and the third of six that she had before becoming the “Octomom” we know her as today. She had 14 kids total between 2001 and 2009.

For those who don’t remember, Suleman had Elijah (2001), Amerah (2002), Joshua (2003), Aidan (2005), and twins Calyssa and Caleb (2006) via in vitro fertilization (IVF) before welcoming her octuplets in 2009.

Noah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jonah, Josiah, Makai, Maliyah, and Nariyah celebrated their 15th birthday on Jan. 16.

“Stay true to yourselves, humble, kind, and honest. I am so grateful for your love, and am beyond blessed to have you in my life. I love you,” the Octomom wrote in a “happy birthday” Instagram post.

In an effort to provide for her 14 children, Natalia cashed in on her internet fame and viral “Octomom” alter ego.

But she decided to walk away from her fame in 2013, and detailed why in a 2016 interview with PEOPLE

“I had stopped wanting to do it from day one,” she said. “I was violating my boundaries and my value system and my own self. I didn’t think of it at the time because I was in survival mode, and I was doing whatever I possibly could to provide for my kids.”

She went on to explain that one of her daughters, who was 10 years old at the time, was the main catalyst for her decision. And it was because she was starting to take after her mother in ways she didn’t like.

“I saw her going down that same potentially destructive path, and I realized at that moment I’d rather be homeless in my van with all 14 kids than continuing down this path,” she continued.
