Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey were one of Hollywood’s biggest ‘it couples’ between 2008 and 2014. They originally met in 2005 and started dating three years later. On April 3, 2008, just a few months after they went public as a couple, Nick and Mariah got married at her private estate on Windermere Island.
On April 30, 2011 – a few weeks after their three-year wedding anniversary – the couple welcomed fraternal twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Mariah and Nick remained together for three years after their birth. Mariah filed for divorce in 2014 and their divorce was finalized in 2016. A lot has changed since then.
Not only did Nick Cannon welcome his third child in February 2017, but he went on to welcome nine more children between December 2020 and November 2022 with five different women. His family has grown exponentially over the past few years and he’s receiving a lot of media attention as interest increases.

On May 8, Nick Cannon – now a father of 12 (one of which passed away in 2021) – sat down for an interview with Jason Lee on The Jason Lee Show podcast. He was asked how his ex-wife, Mariah Carey, feels about his growing family and what her reactions are like when he shares pregnancy news with her.
Cannon said that, while his ex-wife doesn’t seem to be bothered by his expanding family, she did have one request: “As long as you don’t bring none of that bull—- to the Manor of Carey,” Nick said of his wife’s request. He also confirmed that they keep in constant contact with one another as co-parents of twins.
“She lives in her own world, nothing can infiltrate that stuff. When we talk daily, she’s just checking on my spirit,” he said – describing her as ‘high frequency.’ He also added that she’s frequently checking up on him and asking how he’s handling everything – the two continue to support one another post-divorce.
He also cleared the air surrounding rumors of his ex-wife seeking custody – confirming that there is no beef between the two and the rumors aren’t true. “I think there was a narrative out there that she was, like, seeking custody. But we were at dinner the night before that,” he told Jason Lee on the podcast.
Nick Cannon Opens Up About His Eldest Twins
Nick Cannon sat down for an interview with Howie Mandel on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast in April and was asked about his eldest twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who he shares with Mariah Carey, and what they think about having all these new siblings. “At this point, they enjoy it,” he explained.
While they have fun with his other children, he’s interested to see how they feel in the future – when they become teenagers. “But who knows where that will go when 16 hits?. I’m just trying to pay close attention to it and be as honest (with them),” he said – his eldest twins turned 12 years old just a few weeks ago.
“This is my first time having 12-year-olds and I have a set of them. Now we’re having real conversations and, you know, their life is far from normal because their mom is one of the biggest entertainers to ever live and their dad is me,” he added – describing them as intelligent, in-tune, and in-line with their values.
