A 56-year-old mom is still in police custody after she reportedly took her 37-year-old daughter’s life. The killing reportedly happened on Thanksgiving day.
On Thanksgiving night, around 9:30 p.m., North Carolina police were called to an apartment building where 37-year-old Chante Lavarche Alexander was discovered with a gunshot wound, WCNC reports.
Chante Lavarache Alexander was allegedly shot on Thanksgiving by her own mom.
She was transported to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Alexander’s mother, 56-year-old Elvira Elizabeth Alexander, was found at the scene and arrested. Elvira was later charged with second-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm, the firearm she reportedly used to shoot her daughter.
It’s unclear if Elvira admitted to shooting her daughter and it has yet to be revealed why she would have done so. Detectives on the case told Fox 8 that they believe the shooting was an isolated domestic incident and are not looking for any further suspects.
A press release obtained by the Charlotte Observer failed to reveal where the 37-year-old daughter was shot but said the mother was also found inside the apartment where her daughter was discovered:
