Reports are revealing that Naomi Judd was expected to be celebrated at the Nashville museum’s Medallion Ceremony on May 1. This comes after Naomi and her daughter, Wynonna Judd, were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Naomi Judd Was Slated to Be Awarded Her Country Music Hall of Fame Medal on Sunday
In a statement shared by Country Music Hall of Fame CEO Kyle Young, he revealed that the show will go on tonight.
“We are shocked and saddened by the death of Naomi Judd, who enters the Country Music Hall of Fame tomorrow as a member of the @juddsofficial. Her family has asked that we continue with the Judds’ Hall of Fame induction Sunday. We will do so, with heavy hearts.”
It remains unclear how the Hall of Fame will honor Naomi during tonight’s ceremony. The Judds learned they became members-elect back in 2021.

At the time, CNN reports that the Hall of Fame said Wynonna and Naomi Judd Naomi tool “country back to its roots in the 1980s with lean, tuneful songs influenced by traditional folk music, acoustic blues, and family harmony acts.” Whether or not Wynonna will make an appearance at tonight’s ceremony is also unclear.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Naomi Judd’s daughters were the first to share the heartbreaking news that the singer had passed away. Naomi was 76 years old at the time of her passing.
Naomi and her daughter, Wynonna Judd, made up the country music duo The Judds. According to reports, for much of her adult life, Judd raised both of her daughters as a single parent.
Prior to becoming a successful country singer, Naomi was once a nurse. Her other daughter, Ashley, would go on to become a successful actress.
In the shared statement they shared on Instagram, Ashley and Wynonna wrote of the grief they are living through. They also alluded to Naomi’s battle with mental health.
“Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”
Naomi has opened up about her mental health before and became an advocate for other who struggled. In 2016, Naomi told Good Morning America that she has battled with severe depression.
“What I’ve been through is extreme. My final diagnosis was severe depression,” Judd told ABC’s Robin Roberts in an interview aired Tuesday on Good Morning America. “[I’m] treatment-resistant because they tried me on every single thing they had in their arsenal. It really felt like, if I live through this I want someone to be able to see that they can survive.”
“They see me in rhinestones, you know, with glitter in my hair, that really is who I am,” she said. “But then I would come home and not leave the house for three weeks, and not get out of my pajamas, and not practice normal hygiene. It was really bad.”
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Judd family during this difficult time.
