YouTuber Myka Stauffer Who 'Rehomed' Her Adopted Son Speaks Out Following the Backlash and Apologizes For Her Naivety, Foolishness, and Arrogance

On June 25, nearly a month after revealing that the child she adopted years ago was being “rehomed,” YouTuber Myka Stauffer is releasing another statement. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Myka and her husband, James, created a video at the end of May explaining their decision to release themselves as their adopted son, Huxley‘s, parents.

Although the video has since been deleted, Myka admitted, at the time, that the video was “by far the hardest video James and I ever publicly had to make.” The husband and wife claimed that when adopting Huxley it wasn’t initially transparent just how many special needs Huxley had.

Myka alleged over the last few years they were his parents, Huxley had been in and out of different forms of therapy in an effort to help him with all of his needs. “Over the last year, he’s been in more intense therapy to try to help him as much as possible. For us, it’s been really hard hearing from medical professionals a lot of their feedback. Because it’s not what we ever wanted to hear.”

The couple first announced they were adopting Huxley after already being parents of three biological children on July 6, 2016. However, at some point, Myka and James decided they could no longer provide for Huxley and decided to help find him a forever home with parents who could cater to his special needs.

“They found somebody who they felt ultimately the best fit and he is thriving. He is very happy and he is doing very well. And he’s new mommy has professional medical training,” Myka concluded.

Now after an investigation and a lot of backlash following their video revealing their decision, Myka is making another written statement.

Myka began by writing, “I want to first off apologize for the uproar and take full responsibility for all of the hurt that I have caused. This decision has caused so many people heartbreak and I’m sorry for letting down so many women that looked up to me as a mother.”

“I’m sorry for the confusion, and pain I have caused, and I am sorry for not being able to tell more of my story from the beginning. I could have never anticipated the incidents which occurred on a private level to ever have happened, and I was trying my best to navigate the hardest thing I have ever been through. I apologize for being so naive when I started the adoption process, I was not selective or fully equipped or prepared. I received one day of watching at home online video training and gained my Hague adoption certification which was required by my accredited adoption agency. For me, I needed more training. I can’t say I wish this never happened because I’m still so glad Huxley is here and getting all of the help he needs. I also know that even though he is happier in his new home and going better that he still experienced trauma and I’m sorry, no adoptee deserves any more trauma. I wanted to help so badly I was willing to bring home any child that needed me.”

The formerly adoptive mom then admitted her desperation was “naïve, foolish, and arrogant.” Adding that she wishes “so bad I would have been more prepared and done more. I wish the decision to disrupt never had to be made.”

“Adoption and all special needs are amazing and I have a ton of respect for every adoptee, adoption parent, and special needs parent. I look up to you in a million ways. And I’m sorry for hurting the community in any way. Lastly, to debunk a couple of complete rumors, we did not adopt a child to gain wealth. While we did receive a small portion of money from videos featuring Huxley and his journey, every penny and much more went back into his care. Getting Huxley the care and services he needed was very expensive and we made sure he got every service, and resource we could possibly find. Second, we are not under any type of investigation.  I’m hoping to share more from my side of the story soon. And lastly, I’m so sorry for letting you down. I also want to mention that moms need a safe place to ask for help when they are struggling. No questions asked.”

Myka concluded her lengthy statement by saying they still “love Huxley and know that this was the right decision for him and his future. Praying that Huxley only has the best future in the entire world.”
