A mother has been sentenced to six years in prison after her 8-year-old daughter’s passing.
Joy Frances Collins was first arrested in connection to her daughter’s death in 2018 when she reportedly told her daughter and her 9-year-old son to crawl under a train to get to her school bus on time.
As People reports, Collins’ daughter, identified as Joyanna Harris, died just moments after watching her brother crawl under the locomotive, as her mother reportedly told her to “hurry up.” The little boy was injured but survived.
Five years later, Collins has been found guilty of two counts of child abuse and endangerment. Now, she will spend the next six years in prison.
During her sentencing, Collins reported pleaded with the judge, saying, “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t regret any of that, and I do. And I beg for your mercy so I won’t have to go into a prison.”
The little boy remains in his grandparents’ custody.
