Police officers in Utah responded to a mother-of-five in the early hours of the morning in what can be described as a baby formula emergency.
Shannon Bird quickly called 911 just after 2:00 a.m. local time after she was unable to feed her 6-week-old baby who she regularly breastfeeds.
According to KSL-TV, Bird’s husband was out of town and to make matters worse, she had no formula in the house.
“She was screaming. I called my husband and we were brainstorming. I started calling neighbors and teenagers in the area and my little brother and no one was awake,” Bird revealed to the local outlet.

“I’ve been calling neighbors and no one will answer,” Bird allegedly shared on her 911 call, which was obtained by KSL-TV. “I’ve never been in this predicament ever. My milk just literally dried out. This is my fifth kid and this has never happened.”
Officers with the Lone Peak Police Department swiftly responded to the plea, picking up a gallon of milk on their way to Bird’s home. But after they arrived, they quickly realized the baby was too young for cow’s milk and headed back out to obtain baby formula.
“We’ll leave this with you,” Officer Brett Wagstaff states in obtained body-camera footage from the local outlet. “We’ll be right back with some formula for your baby — she’s adorable.”

Both Wagstaff and Officer Konner Gabbitas returned with the much-needed baby formula and refused to allow Bird to pay them for it. “That’s the same stuff we gave my daughter when she was first born, so hopefully it doesn’t upset her stomach,” Wagstaff allegedly informed Bird.
The heroic moment went viral and the Lone Peak Police Department praised Wagstaff and Gabbitas on Facebook, sharing: “So very proud of our Officers and their dedication to duty.“
Bird informed KSL-TV how she was in awe of the gesture, as she originally requested police assistance to watch over her kids at home while she went out to buy formula herself.
“I’ve never not had food for my newborn,” she shared with the outlet. “It was really scary for me.”
