Since we’re all losing our minds trying to homeschool our kids, we’ll take all the hacks we can get! And one mom has figured out a way to keep her quarantined kiddos from mindlessly snacking all day.

In an effort to keep her kids from constantly raiding the pantry throughout the long days at home, Jennifer Hallstrom came up with a solution, according to Popsugar. In a Facebook post, the clever mama shared her snack-rationing secret, along with a photo of three color-coded snack baskets.

“I keep seeing these posts about kiddos wanting to eat all day while they are home. This was my solution! Each child has their own colored basket,” she wrote. “In the morning, I put their snacks in it for the day, and when those snacks are gone, they don’t get any more.”

“It makes them stop and think, ‘Do I really need a snack?’ I also put their cup for the day in there because I’m not washing 50 cups a day! Hahaha!” After receiving some online flack, the mom was quick to reassure all that she isn’t starving her children.

“I didn’t think I had to say this but my children eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are well-fed and I don’t starve them. Sad I even have to say that. Also in no way, shape, or form am I fat-shaming my children.  I just don’t have the luxury of spending $400 on just snacks for a week.”

Most of her followers, though, were grateful for the easy-to-implement hack. “I just wanted to say I love the setup. I am a Registered Dietitian. I try to describe this concept to my kiddos and parents. This pic will really help them understand my point. And I love color-coding things,” wrote one Facebook fan.

And another mom shared what has worked for her. “Awesome idea! We do a menu! I had to do something to keep the kiddos from eating all of our groceries in a few days when we were homeschooling. So, back to that system we go!”
