Police have arrested 35-year-old Stephanie Goddu, from Manchester, New Hampshire, after she allegedly sent her 3-year-old daughter to daycare by the rideshare service, Lyft.
On January 8, Goddu was arrested after she failed to pick up her two young children from the same child care facility.
Police were first notified on January 6 by the child’s daycare after the mom did not show up for pick up.
Southern New Hampshire Services employees informed authorities how they could not make contact with Goddu, according to a news release on the Manchester NH Police’s Facebook page.
They also informed authorities how the mom had a 3-month-old baby at home.
Officers then went to Goddu’s home to check on her, but “Goddu appeared ‘incoherent and disoriented’ and had trouble answering questions,” the report noted. Her 3-month-old was also discovered strapped in her carrier seat, wearing warm clothing and a blanket.
“The carrier was not more than six feet away from a heater and there was concern that the child could overheat,” the report reads.
The infant was also found in urine. And as they continued to investigate, authorities made horrifying another discovery.
“On January 4, 2021 Goddu had hired a Lyft driver to take her 3-year-old child to daycare,” the press release explained. “The child arrived safely, but was alone in the vehicle.”
Days later, police arrested Goddu on charges of endangering the welfare of a child — they reasoned how both the condition of her infant and her toddler’s solo ride on Lyft were enough to warrant arrest.
“Since Goddu did not initially surrender, she was also charged with Resisting Arrest,” the report stated.
