We Are Taking Our 3-Month-Old Trick-or-Treating. Can We Bring a Bag to Collect Candy?

Should I Bring a Candy Bag Trick or Treating for Our 3-Month Old Baby?

A mom writes in asking for advice. She wonders if it is okay to bring a candy bag trick or treating for her young baby. Her baby is now three-months-old. The baby will be trick or treating with her older cousins and is going to be dressing up as well. The parents will not give her the candy, but wonder if it’s OK for them to collect candy knowing they will be the ones eating it. Any advice for this mom?

“My baby girl is going to be three months for Halloween. We are dressing her up as a little deer. We plan to go around the block with her older cousins who are seven and nine years old. Is it appropriate for us to bring a small candy bag for her? Obviously, her father and I will be eating the candy, not her.”

The advice for this mom was pretty split. Some felt that to bring a bag trick or treating with a baby is inappropriate. One shared, “This seems inappropriate. I mean you can take the older ones and have the little with you, but unless a parent offers you some I wouldn’t expect any.”

Another agreed, “I wouldn’t do it personally. Because then people might run out on other little children plus some people might think adults should just buy their own.” However, a good majority felt that is was fine. One said, “Personally, I would do it! I went trick or treating with my kids last year, dressed up with my own candy bag! I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? They could say no?”

Others agreed with this mom. One commented, “Do it. Who cares what others think? If people are handing out candy and don’t want to give any to the baby they won’t. It’s that simple.” Another shared, “When my son was 2 months old I took him trick or treating and he got all the same candy his big brother did.” One commenter agreed, “It’s the experience. I love seeing babies in costume! I’d give you candy if you came to my door!”
