A soon-to-be mom writes in asking for advice. She is currently pregnant with her first child and has decided to leave a very toxic relationship. She is moving 6-7 hours away. Her ex and her ex’s family have been very disrespectful to her and she does not want her baby to grow up in this environment. Her question: should she tell her ex and her ex’s family she’s leaving?

“Need some advice please: I’m currently leaving a very toxic relationship with my ex. I’m moving 6-7 hours away. I’m pregnant with his child. He & his family have been very disrespectful towards me. I don’t want my son growing up thinking it’s okay to hit women.
Also, I do not need him around the drama. They only care about themselves, mot the baby’s health or anything. I’m the bad guy throughout the relationship, etc. Would I be wrong if I didn’t tell them anything and just blocked them on everything?

Advice Summary
Advice for this OP was pretty clear: she should go and not look back. “Walk away. You don’t owe an explanation — they know why you are gone when you leave,” said one commenter. “Run and don’t look back! Keep your head up! Keep you and your child safe, block them on everything including your phone or even change your phone number! Get an order of protection.”
Other commenters said to make sure the OP changes her number and deletes her social accounts. They also suggested the OP look at her legal options, including getting a restraining order if he has ever been physically abusive to her.
Last, most commenters made a point to tell the OP she shouldn’t include her ex’s name on the birth certificate and in case he does know where she lives or where she is delivering, to inform the hospital staff that she does not want him to be let in.
We hope OP that you land on your feet somewhere safe. Be sure to seek out assistance from resources if needed. There is a National Domestic Violence Hotline, which you can reach 24/7 at: 1-800-799-7233.
