A reddit user is livid and is asking for advice after her father-in-law did the unthinkable while holding the mom’s 1-year-old daughter.
As the mom revealed on the thread, “my father-in-law gave alcohol to my baby.” It all took place during a celebration she was hosting for her husband’s birthday.
“Today, during my husband’s birthday celebration, my father-in-law gave alcohol to my baby as if it were a joke,” she wrote. “While we were toasting, and I was cutting the cake, he gave my one-year-old a sip from his glass and laughed as my baby seemed to want more.”
“I feel outraged and frustrated because both of my in-laws are individuals who always want to be right and speak ill behind the backs of anyone who disagrees with them, especially their daughters-in-law,” the mom continued.
Many commenters admitted that this is a situation her husband needs to deal with. “You should have your husband tell his father that that was not okay,” a commenter wrote.
“[Your] husband needs to stand his ground as a parent and protect his child, if they want to talk about about you behind your back then that’s on them and shows a huge lack of maturity on their part. Giving alcohol to a baby is not funny at all. I would be extremely concerned of him doing it again or not supervising properly when alcohol is present as the kids get older.”
And others said this should only provide clarity on who should have any sort of privileges around the child. “Sounds like he lost his privilege of being alone with & holding the baby,” a commenter added. “Well now you definitely know who not to trust to babysit. I had to do the same when my mom was strawfeeding my daughter margaritas.”
