Back in September, on a sunny Saturday afternoon, Maria Guadalupe Ambriz Davis was hanging out with her children at their home in Riverside, California. The mom and her four children had decided to have a “fun-filled” day at their pool.
However, as a GoFundMe set up for Maria’s family revealed, things turned tragic when Maria a traumatic brain injury after jumping into the pool. Sadly, after fighting for a week in a coma, Maria would not recover.

The mom was taken off of life support on September 26, a decision her family and her medical team made. Maria would go peacefully a few minutes later, reuniting “with her beloved mother in Jesus’s heavenly kingdom,” the GoFundMe read.
Maria, who was often affectionately referred to as Lupe by most, was described as an “incredible mother, daughter, sister, and friend.” She leaves behind her husband, Greg, a Los Angeles City firefighter and paramedic, her children; Brianna, Jacob, Adam, and Zoie, her father Ricardo, and her siblings; Jesus, Lisa, Tita, Elvia, and Crystal.

Lupe, who was loved very much by her friends and her community as well, was just 43 years old at the time of her passing. Now, the people within her community are asking for help “offsetting the costs of the funeral service and memorial plans.” So far, nearly $26,000 has been raised for Lupe’s family, who will use the money left over to help with other bills and necessities.
“Lupe was a vivacious, loving, and beautiful person,” the GoFundMe reads. “And we wish to honor her legacy by laying her to rest in the manner that she deserves.”
In an interview with People, Greg said Lupe was his “go-to person” who seemed to be able to do it all with ease. “She was everything to me, so much more than a wife. I loved to do anything for her because I knew she had already done that for me… I will miss her forever.” And Lupe’s sister, Elvia added, “The tragedy has been hard on so many levels, but losing our best friend is the hardest. […] We will forever be at a loss without her.”

And she was her children’s rock. As her 21-year-old daughter Brianna told People, she was “my best friend. She was my rock.” It was a mother-daughter relationship that Brianna loved to brag about. “I am so grateful for the 21 years I got to spend with my other half. She was definitely my soulmate and I will forever carry those memories I have with her.”
Lupe has since been laid to rest.
