A 25-year-old mother from Chattanooga, Tennessee, faces charges of child neglect after leaving her 1-year-old in the car while she went out partying on New Years Eve.
Sylvie King was out partying while a bystander noticed the child trapped in a car just in front of a bar in downtown Chattanooga, according to an affidavit.
The child was seen about an hour before midnight in the vehicle on Cherry Street, according to ABC 9.
Thankfully, the unidentified bystander broke through the window and saved the girl. They also called the police to report how the little girl was locked in a car by herself.
And when authorities arrived, they went into the nearby bar and had the owner of the vehicle paged. At first, no one responsed to the message. Until King finally walked over towards the police.

Police could “smell a heavy odor of alcohol coming from her person,” the affidavit reported. King’s “speech was slurred, her eyes were glossy and red” and she was allegedly “very disorganized and irate.”
The situation escalated when one of the officers asked her why she left the child in the car for an extended period of time.
She “immediately became irate and belligerent with police, causing a further disorder,” the affidavit stated. Police made several attempts to calm King down but were unsuccessful, and promptly arrested the mother.

They additionally contacted the child’s grandmother, who quickly came to the scene and took the child.
King was taken to Hamilton County Jail.
And while she did not comment on what happened, she did inform the ABC 9 news station how both she and the child are doing well.
