Cason Lee Walker and her family were on the way home from her son’s funeral on October 19 when she was fatally hit while failing to merge lanes.
Walker, 63, was driving a car with her two nieces and one of her sons just before 8 p.m. when the crash happened.
Michael Patterson, Clarksville Police spokesperson, revealed to the Leaf Chronicle that Walker was driving a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria heading south on one of the lanes of Trenton Road where the roads start to merge. Walker’s car did not manage to merge and it veered off the road and didn’t stop until she crashed into a concrete culvert.
Walker did not survive her injuries, but her three passengers were rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Thankfully, they left in stable condition.
Walker’s sister, Valerie Marquis, shared it was her granddaughter and stepdaughter who were in the car with Walker during the accident.
Both girls have since returned home but only one of them was able to recall that prior to the crash, Walker began screaming at a car that was tailgating them.
“To my understanding the car went in front of them, turned around and came back toward them and then at that point, I guess my sister lost control,” Marquis said. “There’s no way I could see her going off the road just like that.”
According to the news station, Walker’s son remains in the hospital with injuries that are more severe.
After learning about Walker’s death, Marquis said she “just screamed.”
“We’re totally shocked and I’m still in shock,” she said.
Walker’s death happened to be on the same day as the funeral for her son Jajuan.
Nashville police say her son, 36-year-old Jajuan Montez Clark, was fatally shot on October 10 in Antioch, Tennessee, after a witness called police to report that she saw Clark on the road severely injured.
“He appeared to have been shot,” a news release from Metro Nashville Police Department stated. “Clark was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.”
