There comes a point in every parent’s life where they have to ask themselves: are we having more children, or are we done? And that’s true for all parents… even the former President of the United States.

But when Donald Trump got to that point with Melania Trump, the couple were at a crossroads.

At least that’s what Melania said in a recent interview with Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends while promoting the release of her upcoming memoir, Melania. The memoir is set to be released on Oct. 8.

At one point during the interview, Melania told host Ainsley Earhardt that her husband was all-in on having more children after welcoming their son, Barron Trump, in 2006, but she was fine with having just one child.

“I was always perfectly fine with one. And Donald was encouraging [us] to have more,” Melania said in the Sept. 26 interview. “I’m completely fine with one because it’s [a] very busy life.”

She added that she understands how “busy” her husband is. And since she’s “in charge of everything” that goes on at home, she felt like one was the perfect number.

Melania wanted to set a good example for Barron

As the interview progressed, Earhardt brought up an image captured several years ago that shows a younger Melania, with kid toys all over the floor, working at her desk while her toddler son sat in a toy car.

Melania said it was important that her son see her working, so she could set a good example for him.

“I think it’s very important that we show our children that we are working too. To give them an example [of] how life is,” she said. “That they see us, that we are productive, that we have ideas, that ideas come to life.”

Melania gave birth to Barron on March 20, 2006, one year after marrying Donald on Jan. 22, 2005 at the Bethesda-by-the-Sea church in Palm Beach, Florida.

As for Barron, he turned 18 years old earlier this year and has already started attending classes at New York University in Manhattan. His mother describes him as an “incredible young man.”

“His strength, his intelligence, his knowledge, his kindness. It’s admirable,” she said. “He’s enjoying his college days. I hope he will have a great experience because his life is very different than any other 18, 19 year old child.”

While Barron is Melania’s first and only biological child, she’s also the proud stepmother to Donald’s four other children: Don Jr., 46, Ivanka Trump, 42, Eric Trump, 40, and Tiffany Trump, 30.

During her interview with Fox & Friends, Melania gave her advice on how to thrive with a blended family.

“To take [an] individual as they are. You cannot control anyone. You could control only your own behavior, your own words. Everybody is in control of [their] own self,” she said, adding that Barron is “his own self.”

She added that, while we “all have our yes and no’s and we are all individuals,” all that matters is that “you lead your life with respect and love.”
