The co-host of ABC’s The View, Meghan McCain, announced on Sunday that she and husband, Ben Domenech are expecting a baby. Finding out that you’re pregnant always means plenty of lifestyle changes, but in the reality we’re currently living in, it means much more for Meghan.
“Although this isn’t how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all,” she wrote in a candid social media post.
Meghan shared the news along with the precautions she’s taking to protect herself and her unborn child. The measures include appearing on The View via satellite. She explained that she’ll be “joining the millions of Americans who are self-isolating as a precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
She further explained the steps she’s taking which include social distancing writing, “I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with.”
“I’m fortunate that my employer, ABC, has allowed me and my co-hosts to work remotely,” she wrote. “I am indebted to our producers and crew. I also want to acknowledge the heroes — the doctors, nurses, grocery and pharmacy workers, journalists, police officers, firemen and military — who are on the front lines of this fight.”
“Please stay safe,” she instructed. “Wash your hands and avoid public gatherings and I will continue to see you each morning on The View.”
Meghan’s pregnancy announcement comes just eight months after she penned an op-ed for the New York Times titled, ‘What I Learned from My Miscarriage.’ In the heartfelt piece she wrote, “For a brief moment, I had the privilege of seeing myself in the sisterhood of motherhood,” she wrote about her baby girl. “I had a miscarriage. I loved my baby, and I always will. To the end of my days I will remember this child — and whatever children come will not obscure that.”
Meghan, 35, and husband, Ben, 38, were married in November 2017 and had hopes of starting a family. She wrote, “I have love for my child. I have love for all the women who, like me, were briefly in the sisterhood of motherhood, hoping, praying and nursing joy within us, until the day the joy was over.”
She also wrote about her late father, Senator John McCain “When my father passed, I took refuge in the hope that someday we would be united in the hereafter. I still imagine that moment, even as I trust that a loving God will see it happen. Now I imagine it a bit differently. There is my father — and he is holding his granddaughter in his hands.”
It’s no secret that John McCain was a huge influence on Meghan’s life. She and Ben even moved their wedding date up by four months so that her father, who was battling glioblastoma, could walk her down the aisle. As the senator battled the aggressive form of brain cancer, he was able to enjoy the happy moment with Meghan.
In November of 2018, Meghan marked the occasion by sharing images from her wedding in Cornville, Arizona. She captioned the images, “1 year married tomorrow baby, I can’t believe it’s been a year. My ride or die from day one. In the words of the late poet Johnny Cash — we fell into a burning ring of fire.”
“My great love, my best friend, my true partner, my shelter from the storm. I would not have survived this last year without you,” Meghan wrote referencing the death of her father.
“I love you with my entire heart Ben,” she wrote.
Meghan’s had a lot of ups and downs over the past few years. We’re so excited about this good news from her. Pregnancy is tough, but with the added stress of the novel coronavirus, there is an added challenge. We wish Meghan and Ben the very best. We look forward to any updates Meghan decides to share with fans.
