Folks Down Under are thrilled about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s blockbuster pregnancy announcement. Well, at least the fine people of Madame Tussauds Sydney who gave the Duchess of Sussex’s wax figure a pregnancy makeover and that carried that beautiful hunk of wax over to the zoo.
The photos were described by Tussauds as a “maternity photoshoot…Aussie style.” Which does indeed involve a kangaroo. Outfitted in a leopard print maternity dress, the Meghan statue received “belly kisses from Dot the adorable Kangaroo.”
Meghan Markle’s wax figure was given a pregnancy makeover and taken to the zoo for ‘belly kisses.’
“Congratulations again to Harry, Meghan, and soon-to-be big brother, Archie,” Madame Tussauds Sydney wrote as a caption on Instagram.
Meghan, Prince Harry, and their son Archie, who will turn 2 on May 6, have a special connection to Sydney, Australia. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their first child ahead of their October 2018 tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga. The couple made their first appearance following the announcement in Sydney.

“We also genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the, er, upcoming baby,” Harry said at a speech that day, People reported. Appearing slightly nervous, Harry added, “whether it’s a boy or a girl.”
The couple attended a welcome reception at Admiralty House in Sydney to kick things off. It was there that they received their very first baby gifts from Governor General Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Lynne Cosgrove.
“That’s so cute, it’s our first baby gift!” Meghan said as she received a fluffy stuffed kangaroo complete with a baby joey and fleece Ugg booties.
The Duke and Duchess announced their pregnancy on Valentine’s Day weekend. The new addition will undoubtedly meet an eager brother, Archie Harrison.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement, with similar thoughts being expressed from Buckingham Palace.
A photo taken by the couple’s friend Misan Harriman followed soon after the announcement. The stunning black and white image shows the happy couple staring happily at one another. Their smiles speak volumes. Unlike other photos that generally accompany royal baby announcements, this one looks casual and unburdened.
The little one the way will be a rainbow baby for the couple. The announcement came just a few months after Markle wrote of her “almost unbearable grief” after suffering a miscarriage in July 2020.
“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few,” she wrote in the honest and heartbreaking New York Times essay.
