Meghan Markle Talks Baby Milestones and the ‘Morning Rush’ as a Mother of Two on Latest Podcast

On the latest installment of her Archetypes podcast, Meghan Markle gave listeners several updates on motherhood with guests Pamela Adlon and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. She talked about baby milestones, her ‘morning rush,’ not feeling ‘mom guilt,’ and being a mother to a daughter.

First off, let’s talk about her baby daughter, Lilibet Diana – who is now 1.5 years old. Meghan revealed that Lilibet has ‘just started walking,’ which is an exciting milestone, but it only means that she’ll have to keep an extra eye on her as she grows to be more curious and interested.

We originally learned of Lilibet’s first step back in April when Prince Harry mentioned it in an interview with PEOPLE. Now nearly eight months later, it appears Lilibet is becoming more mobile every month as she tries to keep up with her three-year-old brother, Archie Harrison.

Markle also talked about being the mom of a daughter, which has changed her perspective on life. “I see the world differently through how she is going to see the world and how she is going to look at certain women as role models,” said Markle, speaking to Pamela Adlon at the time.

“I want her to understand that it is not just a box you have to fit into, but you get to be a full-fledged, interesting, curious, kind, strong, all the things, human being. But you also get to be a woman with a voice,” she continued. It’s clear that Markle wants to raise her daughter right.

The 41-year-old mother of two also opened up about how chaotic her mornings are as she gets everyone ready for the day. Not only does she cook everyone’s breakfast – including Harry’s – but she makes Archie’s lunchbox, feeds her three dogs, and gets Archie off to school on time.

Don’t worry, Markle added that her husband does a great job of helping around the house. “Oh, my husband? He’s great!” she said after Adlon made a comment about hoping Harry helps. It’s something all parents can relate to, with Markle adding it will only get worse as they get older.

Pamela Adlon wasn’t the only guest Meghan Markle had on her Archetypes podcast. She was also joined by Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Meghan and Sophie have been friends for years, dating back to Markle’s time as an actress.

“I’ve gone to her over the years for advice. She knows what it feels like to be a mom and a partner, and specifically a mom and a partner in the public eye. And also how crushing the guilt of expectations can become,” said Meghan of Sophie – who was quick to echo her sentiments.

The two talked about the ‘guilt’ they feel as mothers and women, in general. “I think we’ve learned to self-impose it… A little girl is not born feeling guilty for being a girl, we learn it. And that’s completely unacceptable,” said Trudeau, who is adamant about changing the stigma.

“This idea of what it means to be a good mom, or like a Stepford Wife – all of these different archetypes where you feel this pressure to have to be a more or a wife or a partner in a certain way… and then the mom shaming that comes with it, often times,” said Markle later on.

They also talked about the ‘other version of us’ – the one that doesn’t involve being ‘perfectly coiffed with updos and pearls’ and, instead, involves ‘wild curly hair, and swimsuits, and loose linen, and huge belly laughs.’ It’s a steady reminder that public figures are regular people, too.
