According to the copy of the birth certificate obtained by People, it was revealed that Meghan Markle omitted a piece of her identity on the official document.
As reports suggest, Markle refrained from using her royal title on their daughter’s birth certificate. This is the opposite of what appears on their son’s birth certificate.
Lilibet’s Birth Certificate Reveals Meghan Markle Ditched Her Royal Title
As the document reveals, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, which is not far from their home in Montecito, California. It also reveals that while Markle decided to forego the use of her titles and simply use her full legal name, which is Rachel Meghan Markle, Prince Harry used all of his royal titles.
On the certificate, Harry’s first name is listed as “The Duke of Sussex” and his last name, “His Royal Highness.” On Archie’s birth certificate, Meghan is listed as the Duchess of Sussex, the International Business Times reports.
Also on Archie’s certificate, Harry and Meghan’s occupations were listed as the “Prince and Princess of the United Kingdom” even though Meghan technically is not a princess. However, for Lilibet’s certificate, occupations were not needed.
Lilibet is the deeply personal nickname the royal family calls the Queen. The nickname was given to her by her late father, King George VI, but it was her late husband, Prince Philip, who kept the nickname alive.

Harry and Meghan revealed that they plan on calling Lilibet “Lili” for short, which is also an ode to Meghan’s mother, Doria, who called Meghan “flower” growing up. The Queen knew that her great-granddaughter would be named after her prior to her birth.
“The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called,” a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan revealed. “During that conversation, he shared their hopes of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
It’s believed that thanks to FaceTime and other video chat services, Lilibet has been able to meet many of her family members virtually. It’s unclear when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will travel from California to England so that she can meet the Queen, her grandfather, and her uncle, aunt, and cousins in person.
Harry and Meghan have not yet shared a photo of their baby girl. It’s unclear when, if ever, they will!
