Mom of 15-Month-Old Evelyn Boswell Arrested in Connection with Daughter’s Disappearance

Mom of 15-Month-Old Evelyn Boswell Arrested in Connection with Daughter's Disappearance | "I told TBI where to find her in Mendota. My mom took her to a campground in a silver camper, and if they don't go tonight, I'm going to go find her myself..."

Megan ‘Maggie’ Boswell, the mother of missing Tennessee toddler Evelyn Boswell, was taken into custody on Tuesday, February 25, in connection with the 15-month-old’s disappearance. Evelyn has not been seen since December 2019; however, her family did not report her disappearance until last week.

The case has taken many twists and turns in the past week, including Boswell providing false testimony to the police, which prompted her arrest. She has been charged with one count of false reports.

“During the course of the investigation, Megan ‘Maggie’ Boswell provided detectives and agents with a number of conflicting statements,” Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Captain Andy Seabolt told CNN.

One of the key questions in the case is why the family did not report Evelyn’s disappearance earlier. To date, Boswell nor her mother have provided any information to put an end to that question.

But that’s not the only question that’s arisen in the case. Last week, Boswell told WJHL through a Facebook message that she was pregnant with her second child and, as a result, could not take a polygraph test. However, the sheriff’s office said it doesn’t use polygraph tests.

“Megan Boswell was not scheduled to meet with a TBI polygraph examiner today,” the police department told WJHL. And prior to her arrest, Boswell claimed that she had told police where to find Evelyn in her messages to WJHL.

“I told TBI where to find her in Mendota. My mom took her to a campground in a silver camper, and if they don’t go tonight, I’m going to go find her myself, because I’ve told them and they’re not really like taking it seriously, and if they don’t go tonight, I will go myself and go get her… They’re not taking me seriously, TBI isn’t, because I’ve not fully told them I’ve been like ‘hey, like my mom camped out in Mendota, you know, to go check them out,’ but I’ve never been like, ‘hey,’ specifically, ‘hey, she’s like in a silver camper,’ because my mom did threaten me like you know if I told anybody – I’m not gonna get into that – but she did.”

The 15-month-old’s mother told the station that her mom was going to babysit Evelyn before Christmas because she had to work. That was allegedly the last time she saw her daughter.

Police reported they were getting conflicting reports from Boswell. They also said that they did search her mother’s property on Monday evening, but couldn’t find anything.

“This is to let you know that the campgrounds in Mendota, Virginia, have been checked regarding the information that Megan Boswell provided to you during her interview earlier this evening. There was nothing located as these locations were checked,” the police said in a statement to WJHL.

Boswell’s mother, Angela Boswell, was also arrested last week in North Carolina, along with William McCloud. They are both currently in custody and are being held on bond. They will soon be extradited to Tennessee to face charges.

Evelyn’s father is currently serving in the United States Army. Boswell has allegedly been in contact with him during the search for their daughter. However, he has yet to make a public statement.
