Meg Ryan hasn’t starred in a film since 2015, is rarely seen out in public, and hasn’t posted a photo of herself on Instagram since last March – the point being we don’t get to see much of her these days. On Wednesday (May 3), the 61-year-old actress made a rare public appearance in support of her dear friend.
That friend is Michael J. Fox and she was seen posing for pictures with the legendary actor at a special screening for Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie – a documentary that highlights the best and worst moments of his life and career, including his best projects and his devastating diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease.
The event took place at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York and featured quite the star-studded roster of attendees – including Bill Murray, Joan Jett, Katie Couric, Elvis Costello, Debra Messing, Denis Leary, Ali Wentworth, and his wife Tracy Pollan. Meg Ryan was pictured in several photos.
When the newest photos of Meg Ryan surfaced, many fans took to social media to share their negative opinions of her physical appearance – with one fan writing, “Is that really Meg Ryan ????, if so that’s such a shame and incredibly sad tbh,” while another fan asked, “Wtf has Meg Ryan done to her face?!”
Many fans were speculating that she has undergone some form of plastic surgery over the past few years – something Meg Ryan has never confirmed nor denied. Other fans felt the need to come to her defense and pointed out that a lot of the change in her appearance is likely due to the natural aging process.
“Everyone ages. Please stop this,” wrote one fan, while another fan mentioned how ‘she looks like Meg Ryan, but a little older.’ “So she doesn’t look like she did 35 years ago. None of us do. Who cares and let her be,” wrote a third fan – furthering the point that we’re all going to face similar changes as we age.
Meg Ryan Set to Make Her Return to the Big Screen
The last time fans got to see Meg Ryan on the big screen was in 2015 when she starred in Ithaca as Kate Macauley. She was also the director of the film (her directorial debut) and, adding to the significance of it, she starred alongside her son, Jack Quaid – who she shares with famed actor Dennis Quaid.
While we haven’t seen her in a film since then, fans are finally going to see the return of Meg Ryan soon. On May 3, 2022, Ryan took to Instagram to share details of her newest project – What Happens Later – which is set for a 2023 release (exact date unknown) and will both star Ryan as an actress and director.
The film is based on Shooting Star – a play by Steven Dietz – and production began sometime in 2022. “What if late one snowy night you came face to face with someone from your long ago? Someone who once held your secrets, because once, long ago, that person held your heart,” the film’s logline reads.
