For many of us, 2020 was a bit of a wash and for some 2020 was a year they never want to remember. And as a result of all 2020 has taken away from us, 2021 is now known as the year of redemption. It’s the year we aren’t going to take for granted and it’s the year that we are going to get stuff done. 2021 is the year we will make our wildest dreams come true… or at least take the steps we need to take to make those dreams come true eventually.
As someone who enjoys lists and visualization, I’m a huge fan of writing down a list of my goals at the start of the year. I then take that list and turn it into a board so I can see it every day. Now, I know there are some people out there who will think this is a waste of time because you can’t just write something down and make it happen. But that’s not what the goal board is for.
Of course, you have to take action to achieve the goals you set for yourself, but it’s hard not to work toward a goal when you’re reminded of it every day. And that’s why the goal board exists.

So here is what you need and how to make a goal board so that 2021 is the best year yet.
First, you’ll have to choose what the base of your board is going to be. Since this is something you’ll want to have out so you can look at it all 365 days of the next year, you’ll want it to somewhat match the decor of your home. So I opted for a frame, some strong twine, and clothespins. However, as I will explain in this article, there are several other ways you can make a goal board using other products as well.
Black 20 x 28 Inch Trendsetter Poster Frame

12-Ply Cotton Twine String

Wire Clothespins Laundry Chip Clips

Now that you have everything you need to put the goal board together, you’re going to want to pop the glass out of the frame and either save it for when you’re no longer using your frame for a goal board or properly recycle the piece of glass. Next, take your hot glue gun, gorilla glue, or staple gun, and run a piece of twin from one end of the frame to the other.
Depending on how many goals you have written down, that’s how many rows of string you’ll want to glue or staple across your frame. And now that that is done, add your clothespins to the lines of twine and move on to the fun part, which is making your visuals for the board.
As you saw in my example, albeit blurred out, I choose to use paper, crayons, and magazine cut-outs to display my goals for 2021. From notecards to stickers, here are some items that you can use to make your board as visually appeals as possible.
Small Blank Note Cards

Nicpro Alphabet Letter Stickers

Architectural Digest

All I did was use the paper and crayons to create the “headings.” Basically, the heading is just the goal written out colorfully in my own fun font. However, as the items above show you, you can use notecards, cardstock, a different type of marker, or even stickers! You can also use fun scissors to make the headings and cut-outs even more visually appealing!
I then went through some of the magazines I’ve had laying around and gut out pictures that represent my goals. For example, one of my goals for 2021 is to spend more time at the piano. So I wrote, “Practice the Piano” as the header and cut out a picture of a piano from the magazine.
However, if you have a photo printer at home, you could also search the internet or use your own personal pictures to print out for your board. Then once I had the visuals created and cut out, I used the clothespins to hang the headings off of the twine and then another clothespin to hang the magazine clippings from the header. And there you have it!
Now, if frames and twine aren’t your aesthetic, we have some other options for you that will work just as well! Remember, this is your goal board and it should be something you get excited about looking at every single day! So make it what you want it to be!
Thickened Felt Hexagon Tile Board

Strenco Adhesive Black Hook and Loop Tape
$12.46 at the time of publication
When it comes to using these felt tiles and hook and loop strips, make your headings and cut or print out your pictures the same way. But instead of using clothespins, stick the rough side of the hook and loop strips onto the back of the headings you created and on the backs of the visuals, then just stick them on the felt tiles. And the cool part about these felt tiles is that you can hang them on your wall in an shape or design you want!
Now, you can even take it a step further and stick the hook and loop on the backside of the clothespins and still use the clothespins to hang your visuals. There are so many opportunities so don’t be afraid to get creative. You can also use a corkboard and push pins to display your goal board as well!

And for the younger generation who prefers to have everything digitalized, you can also use various apps and applications to help you create a goal board on your iPad or Surface Pro! However, when it comes to using an app to create your goal board, it’s easy to forget about when you close out of it. So just make sure you are setting daily reminders for yourself to take note of the board and reflect on what you’ve done so far to achieve any or all of the goals you’ve set for yourself in 2021!
If you don’t have an iPad or a Surface Pro but are thinking about getting one this year, below are some options you can look into.
New Apple iPad

Microsoft Surface Pro 6
$729.97 at the time of publication
And that is all there is to it. When it comes to setting goals and sticking to them, we get how hard that can be. Circumstances arise, life gets in the way, there are so many reasons why we don’t achieve the goals we set for ourselves, but being reminded of those goals every day is just one small thing we can do for ourselves to make sure we get closer to those goals every single day. Goal boards equal goals achieved!
You can also make the goal board a fun family project. Get the kids together and anyone else you want to include and ask them what their goals are for 2021. Together you can get creative and excited about putting the board together! Also, don’t forget to check out Mamas Uncut’s shop page for other products you may be in the market for.
But most importantly, remember to have a good 2021! Whether that be achieve goals or just living life in a way we couldn’t over the last, we all deserve to live 2021 our own way, especially after the 2020 we all had to live through. Happy New Year!
