On Friday (July 28), Mandy Moore took to her Instagram Story to open up about a health scare her 2-year-old son, Gus, experienced recently. It all started when she noticed a ‘crazy rash’ that was forming on his arms and legs. Her initial thought was that it was an allergic reaction, poison oak, or eczema flare.

“We tried to deduce what it could be and did anything to help him find relief from the itch. Went to urgent care. Pediatrician. Dermatologist. Pediatric dermatologist. All the while, he smiles and laughs and carries on with his day like the rockstar he is,” she wrote over a photo of him licking a lollipop after a doctor’s visit.

After several trips to the doctor, Mandy Moore finally got some answers and her son was diagnosed with Gianotti-Crosti syndrome. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), it’s a ‘rare childhood skin condition characterized by a papular rash with blisters on the skin of the legs, buttocks, and arms.’

It’s a condition that Mandy Moore had never heard of and she’s now asking her followers if anyone else has experienced something like this – while also using it as an opportunity to warn parents of some of the random dangers that come with having children. Luckily for the Moore family, the rash is temporary.

“It sometimes accompanies a cold but not in Gus’s case. It’s all over his legs and feet (ouch) and the backs of his arms but nowhere else. There’s nothing to do but a steroid cream and Benadryl at night. And it could last 6-8 weeks,” she said of her son’s prognosis – sharing a photo of the highly-aggressive rash.

Mandy Moore shares two children with her husband of almost-five years, Taylor Goldsmith. The couple started dating in 2015, got engaged in 2017, and tied the knot in Los Angeles, California on November 18, 2018. They welcomed their first son, Gus, in February 2021 and second son, Oscar, in October 2022.

She concluded Gus’ recent health update with a relatable message (for parents, anyway). “All of that to say, this parenting thing is weird and hard and sometimes you feel so helpless (and yes I’m ever so grateful it’s only an itchy skin condition),” she said – calling her son resilient as she maintains optimism.

Mandy Moore Opens Up About Life as a Mother of 2 Under 2

Her post comes just a few days after Mandy Moore sat down for an interview with E! News – which aired on July 25. She was asked about her life as a mother of two children under the age of two years old and she – as always – gave a relatable response, noting it isn’t easy and there are struggles along the way.

“Somedays I feel like we’re barely above water,” she said in the interview – describing the potty training as ‘intense,’ but adding that they’re ‘slowly but surely getting there.’ She also revealed a piece of advice that was given to her – “I love that someone told me, ‘It’s not an event, it’s a process,’” she continued.

She also gushed over the bond her two sons have already built as they grow closer to one another with each passing day. They’ve only had 10 months to get to know one another, but it has been enough to create a bond that won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

“He is enamored with his brother, it is really sweet,” she said of the love her youngest son, Ozzie, has for his older brother, Gus. “He just looks at him with awe and wonder all the time and is his biggest fan. No one makes him laugh more, smile more.”
