Mama June‘s drug use, as well as rehab experience, is the main focus of the We TV series Mama June: Family Crisis.
For the majority of last year, she has been estranged from her daughters, arrested for felony drug possession, and is now opening up about her life choices and how it has affected her health.
But Mama June claims she is doing a bit better despite being with her also-addicted-to-crack-boyfriend, Geno Doak, and is just beginning the process at a rehab facility.
Mama June revealed how she lost her vision after snorting crack cocaine while answering questions at a rehab facility. Mama June was not shy when discussing her severe health issues due to her addiction.
“I started snorting it, lost my vision, and then I quit and then I went into using … just smoking crack,” Mama June admitted. She then revealed how her drug of choice “has to be cocaine crack.”
And while most of the family is not convinced, Mama June revealed how she and Geno have been sober for three months. The pair have witnessed some difficult times, mostly due to their addiction, but Mama June claimed how she could stop at anytime. “If I choose that I don’t want to do it, then I don’t do it,” Mama June said.
Mama June previously admitted how she could go through “a couple ounces” of crack cocaine in a single day.
“I can go through a couple ounces a day, easy. Not even think about it,” Mama June shared. The addiction cost the mother close to $3,000 a day. Mama June began to then struggle financially — selling her house for a fraction of its worth, living in hotel rooms and casinos, and even selling her belongings on Facebook — all to afford her drug addiction.
And last year, Mama June finally got to a point where she expressed regret for her actions. When her two daughters, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efrid and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, attempted to confront her in an intervention in 2019, it failed epically. But now, Mama June is in a place where she wants to change.
“I lost who I was there for a while. I do believe that. There’s mistakes that I’ve made in the past that I wish I wouldn’t have done, but they’re lessons learned,” Mama June shared in an episode of the series.
“I hated the person I was. And I wanted to kill that person I was, if that makes sense. I didn’t want to kill myself physically, but I wanted to kill that personality,” June candidly admitted in a recent interview. When asked if “that person” was in the past, Mama June said, “I do believe that person that I wanted to kill is in the past. I hated the person I was.”
