Distance makes the heart grow fonder for Mady Gosselin, who recently moved away for college and wants some space from her celebrity family and specifically her mother, Kate Gosselin. Mady and the Gosselin family were made famous by TLC’s reality TV show, Jon & Kate Plus 8.
Now, the young adult wants some distance from fame and the drama that comes with it. According to reporting from InTouch, college has inspired Mady to break away from her famous family and strive for independence.

A source close to Mady Gosselin says she’s ready for independence from her family.
“Kate and Mady are on a lot better terms. Going away to college has actually made them closer,” the source told InTouch. “They love each other, but Mady wouldn’t mind if her mom didn’t comment on her social media posts, only because she wants her own identity. She doesn’t want to be associated with the reality show and her parents’ drama.”
Wanting your own independence and identity usually happens when someone goes off to college.
It’s only natural that the 19-year-old would want some control of her life and image after being on reality TV for most of her childhood.
The highly-publicized drama between her parents might motivate her to want some distance as well.
“While Jon and Kate seem to still be having issues, the kids are slowly but surely moving on,” the source added. That makes complete sense given that Jon and Kate are still beefing after their divorce finalized almost nine years ago.
Kate can’t seem to stay out of the news.
Kate has not shied away from reality TV appearances since her divorce and has found herself in some legal drama recently. Apparently she was found in contempt of court for filming her underage children without the proper work permits for the reality series, Kate Plus Date.
That’s not all. Kate also failed to secure permission from Jon that would legally allow the kids to be filmed.
In addition to the proper work permits, Kate failed to get Jon’s permission to film her children for the series. As if her legal woes weren’t enough, Jon publicly blasted Kate on Dr. Oz for being an “unfit mother” with a skewed belief system.
We’re happy Mady is blazing her own path and giving herself some room to breathe.
College is all about discovering yourself. It would be difficult for Mady to do that in the shadow of her celebrity parents and their messy lives. We’re happy for Maddy and hope she continues to find herself and gain independence from her reality TV past.
