“I ignored my intuition and allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass,” Loughlin admitted. “I thought I was acting out of love for my children but in reality it only underlined and diminished my daughters’ abilities and accomplishments.”

“More broadly and more importantly, I now understand that my decision helped exacerbate existing inequalities in society generally and the higher education system more specifically,” Loughlin added. “That realization weighs heavily on me and while I wish I could go back and do things differently, I can only take responsibility and move forward.”

Loughlin and her husband were accused and later found guilty of paying $500,000 to William “Rick” Singer to falsely advertise their daughters as recruits to the University of Southern California crew team to ensure their enrollment. However, neither of their daughters have eever participated in the sport of rowing before.

Also sentenced after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges in connection with securing the fraudulent admission for both of their daughters to the University of Southern California was Loughlin’s husband, Mossimo Giannulli. He was sentenced to five months in prison, two years of supervised release, 250 hours of community services, and was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.

The couple has decided to serve their time separately so that at least one of them is around for their now-adult children, 22-year-old Bella, and 21-year-old Olivia. According to a source, E! News reports that Loughlin and Giannulli “are terrified about going to jail.”
