The new not Royal baby, Lilibet Diana, nicknamed Lili, has a lot of history in her name, from both sides of her family.
There’s a secret reference to Meghan’s mom’s nickname for Meghan in Lilibet Diana.
In a blog post on Meghan Markle’s now-defunct lifestyle website, Tig, she revealed her nicknames, which include, “Meg, MM, M&M, and Flower (which my mom has called me since I was little).” Now, she’s calling her daughter flower too, in her own way!
The connection makes a lot of sense, as a source close to the family told People that Meghan “definitely gets a lot of her strength from her mother.”
Prince Harry reflected on his own mother, Diana, Princess of Wales in his Apple TV+ series with Oprah, The Me You Can’t See, which explores mental health. He said of Diana, “I wish she could’ve met Meghan. I wish she was around for Archie,” and likely even moreso with the recent arrival of Lilibet Diana as well.
He explained how he thinks Diana would have reacted to seeing her son as an adult having left the Royal Family. “Yeah, I have no doubt that my mom would be incredibly proud of me. I’m living the life that she wanted to live for herself, living the life that she wanted us to be able to live. So not only do I know that she’s incredibly proud of me, but that she’s helped me get here. And I’ve never felt her presence more as I have done over the last year.”
The couple announced their daughter’s birth in a statement on Sunday. “Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home. Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
