Ivan Rebollar Cortez is one of approximately 200,000 people in the U.S. that share a Leap Year birthday. Now, he can share the birthday with an especially special someone: his daughter Camila, who was born on February 29, 2020.
“Happy Birthday and Happy Leap Day!,” Mercy San Juan Medical Center shared on Instagram.
In the photo, which was shared by the hospital in California where Camila was born, Cortez is holding his newborn baby girl who is wearing a knitted leapfrog ensemble.
“Pictured is baby Camila and dad Ivan Rebollar Cortez sharing their leap day birthday at Mercy San Juan Medical Center,” the post continued. “The odds of a parent sharing a birthday with their child on a leap year is 1 in 2.1 million.”
Camila’s due date was March 3, but she arrived early to share the special occasion with her proud papa.
“I prayed to God for my little baby girl and now we are going to share this amazing bond for the rest of lies. I am just so happy!,” Cortez told CNN.
“We are so blessed to have our little Camila here and so incredibly shocked at the coincidence that she now shared her Leap Day birthday with her dad,” her om, Jennifer Rebollar Cortez told the outlet.
And that’s not the only Leap Day birth miracle…
The Demchak family, based in Brooklyn, also welcomed their new baby on Leap Year. Daughter Scout shared her birthday with big brother Omri, who was also born on Leap Day.
“Were the double Leap Year Family!,” mom Lindsay Demchak told the New York Post.
“We joked about it: ‘What if it happens again?’,” said dad Dane Demchak. “And then it did! It’s crazy. It still hasn’t set in. We’re very ecstatic.”
