Leah Remini Shares Her Thoughts on Sending Her Daughter Off to College for the Second Time in 5 Months

Leah Remini already had to send her daughter off to college once – back in September – but now she’s having to do it all over again just five months later. And, while it took a lot out of her the first time around, she’s learning that it’s even harder the second time around – something many parents can relate to.

She opened up about her newest experience in a recent Instagram post, which explained her daughter’s decision to leave the university she was attending after just a few weeks and enroll in a new school. It meant Remini got to spend a couple more months with her daughter at home, but it didn’t last long.

“A few weeks ago, she started courses at another University, and we moved her into an apartment,” wrote Remini in her Instagram caption. “You’d think the second time would be easier, but Angelo and I are even more of a mess now,” she continued – speaking about her husband of nearly 20 years, Angelo Pagán.

In the post, which featured a snippet from the family’s reality TV show Leah Remini: It’s All Relative, Leah Remini explained how her daughter is ‘back at it’ and ‘going through all the things a first-year college student’ goes through, but her daughter isn’t the only one going through the motions – and emotions.

“We, her parents, are going through what parents like us go through. Crying, not knowing what to do with ourselves now other than looking at pictures and videos and crying some more,” she said, adding that watching old videos from her TV show – when her daughter was much younger – makes her emotional.

She posted similar sentiments back in September, when her daughter first moved out. She called the experience ‘excruciatingly painful,’ but also called it the ‘proudest moment’ of her life. “I don’t look forward to going home where my daughter’s room will be empty without her until she comes home,” she wrote.

One of her original fears was that she was pushing or forcing her daughter, Sofia, down the college path – especially since Remini never got to attend college at her daughter’s age. Now, the mother-daughter duo are both college students with Sofia in her first year and Remini in her second year at New York University.

Leah Remini is Staying Busy in 2023

Leah Remini might be a ‘mess’ (as she put it) after sending her daughter off to college for the second time, but that’s not stopping her from staying busy. Aside from attending college herself, Remini is currently hosting Season 3 of PEOPLE Puzzler – she has been the host since Season 1 in 2021.

The game show, which airs on the Game Show Network, tests people’s knowledge of pop culture by completing crossword puzzles – it was inspired by the crossword puzzles in PEOPLE Magazine. Season 3 began on January 30th and fans can play along on weeknights (Monday-Friday) at 6:30 p.m. ET.

She was also selected as a judge for Season 17 of So You Think You Can Dance? – which came to an end on August 10, 2022 – and was also the co-host of a podcast that aimed to expose the horrific truths behind scientology. And, while she’s still a mother, she does admit that her role as a mother has changed.

Leah Remini met her husband, Angelo Pagán, in 1996 and the couple tied the knot on July 19, 2003. One year later, on June 16, 2004, the couple gave birth to a healthy daughter, who they named Sofia Bella Pagán – she was born the day after Remini’s birthday. Angelo also has three daughters from past relationships.
