On July 2, a photographer asked Michael Jordan a question we’ve all been wondering – what does he think of his son, Marcus Jordan, dating his former teammate’s (Scottie Pippen) ex-wife, Larsa Pippen? MJ laughed when he was asked if he approved of the relationship and responded with a stern, “No.”
It didn’t take long for his comment to make headlines, especially once TMZ released video footage of the interaction. After his comment went viral, a lot of the attention turned to Larsa Pippen – who was criticized and accused of lying due to comments she made a few months back while on The Tamron Hall Show.
During the show, Pippen talked about how she felt she had MJ’s blessing in dating his son and that the two families were in a great place. Many people accused Pippen of lying about having MJ’s blessing and his recent comment all but confirmed that – though Marcus believes it was all blown out of proportion.
On July 10, the couple took to their Separation Anxiety with Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan podcast to talk about Michael Jordan’s recent comment and the backlash they received. The conversation lasted 25 minutes and the couple had split emotions – Marcus thought it was funny, but Larsa was embarrassed.
“You thought it was funny. I didn’t think it was funny. There is nothing funny about it,” Larsa said to Marcus – adding that she was ‘kind of embarrassed’ and even ‘traumatized’ by all the people accusing her of lying. In her mind, she didn’t feel like she was embellishing anything when she made those comments.
On the other hand, Marcus found the comment funny and claimed his father said it as a joke – blaming MJ’s love for Cincoro tequila as the driving force behind the comment. Marcus also confirmed that his father texted him after the comment was made and assured him there was no ill intent behind his words.
“Obviously, we knew ahead of time because he called me and texted me and wanted to make sure that I didn’t take anything the wrong way but then when the article came out, he texted me again and he never said ‘hell no’ and that’s not what the implications were,” he said – confirming everything is fine and dandy.
Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan Understand the Awkwardness
Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan aren’t letting anything (or anyone) get in the way of their relationship, but they understand why things might be awkward between the families – considering her ex-husband and his father used to be teammates. Of course, that’s between MJ and Pippen – not Larsa and Marcus.
“But it probably is awkward for my ex and your dad because they have their own relationship or whatever it was. I wasn’t a part of that, you weren’t a part of that. So I feel like for them it probably is weird, it probably is weird for your dad. I can’t be mad. I understand..,” Larsa said on the couple’s podcast.
As for Marcus, his father already told him he doesn’t need his approval in his personal life and he’s free to do as he pleases – though he also confirmed that his father wants to ‘stay clear’ of his relationship with Larsa Pippen. He might wish things were different, but MJ isn’t going to interfere with his son’s love life.

“We obviously talked to both of our parents and we had their approval. I think he was making a joke and it got blown out of proportion, and taken, not out of context because he said what he said, but if you don’t know who my dad is at his core then it could be taken the wrong way,” Marcus added.
