A 34-year-old mom has been arrested after her two-year-old daughter died in West Carson, California two weeks ago. June Love Agosto passed away after being left in her mother’s car for more than five hours while covered up by blankets and with the heat on.
More than 48 children have died in hot cars in 2019 alone. This case is particularly tragic, as June Love Agosto’s mom, Lacey Mazarrella, was allegedly drinking with a friend while her daughter was in the heated car, covered in blankets.
At the time, Mazarrella was in a nearby car, drinking with a friend. She fell asleep for several hours before going back to her car to check on June.
June was rushed to a nearby hospital but was unable to be revived.
Mazzarella was arrested and charged with murder and child neglect resulting in death, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Mazzarella told police that she had left June in her car seat, with a blanket and the heat on, around 11:00 p.m. on September 21. According to the police report, she confessed she had been drinking with a friend in a car parked next to hers and fallen asleep, waking up about five hours later.
June’s official cause of death is still being determined. Mazzarella is currently being held on 1.5 million dollars bail.
