Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard will admit it — they too were driving each other mad during lockdown.
While conversing with Chelsea Handler, who was guest-hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show this past week, Kristen admitted how she and Dax were butting heads during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
“And then all the doors locked in our house, like, we had to stay inside, and we were like, ‘Woof. We need to get a handle on the annoyances,'” she told Chelsea, revealing how hard it was as a family of four to go from their busy lives — to being locked in the house together, daily.
It was their couples’ therapist who made the suggestion that they tweak their usual approach to therapy.
After they were open about how they had been bickering, Kristen and Dax’s therapist, Harry, suggested that the two un-couple for therapy and each receive a solo session where they would be able to “talk s— about each other.”

“Currently, right now, what we’ve been doing the last couple of months is every two weeks or so, I’ll see Harry via Zoom and complain about Dax, and then he’ll give me all the reasons why I’m wrong and then Dax will do the same,” she told Chelsea. “And then, by the time we meet up in the evening, we love each other again.”
Kristen has been very transparent about what both she and Dax get out of therapy. This past year, Kristen cited couples’ therapy as “incredibly helpful.”
“We’ve learned everything about each other because we haven’t been able to leave,” she joked in the interview. “The main thing I’ve learned is something I learned from Glennon Doyle, which is that we just need to give each other grace under circumstances.”

While chatting with Self in her latest cover story for the magazine’s May 2021 issue, Bell admitted she has been struggling with her mental health and its effects on her family. Kristen revealed that while she seems “bubbly and happy,” she is feeling anything but.
Bell went on to admit how there were days when she snoozed her alarm to stay in bed due to feeling “very, very, very vulnerable.”
In addition, this past year, she was having “trouble distinguishing between my emotions and someone else’s emotions, and that’s not a compliment to myself. That’s a very dangerous thing to toy with.”
