If TLC star Kody Brown doesn’t love you, it’s your fault. And if he does love you, well that’s your fault too.

At least that’s what the 55-year-old said during the newest episode of his hit reality show, Sister Wives, which aired on TLC on Sunday, Oct. 20.

“Don’t blame me for not loving you. I was doing my duty,” he said in a one-on-one confessional, according to E! News. “Blame yourself if I don’t love you, OK?”

Kody doubled down on that sentiment in a later confessional, arguing that it’s the woman’s fault if he loves her, too.

“If I’m mad about a woman, want to serve her, passionate, want to rub her feet, want to carry in her groceries, if I want to buy her jewelry, if I want her to feel special all the time, if I’m in love with a woman, I think that’s her fault,” he said.

He continued, “So what happens when I’m not in love with a woman? Is that just my fault?”

His comments came as the show was diving into the downfall of Kody’s marriage to Meri Brown, his first wife before welcoming three other wives into the relationship.

Kody and Meri tied the knot in 1990 and remained legally married until 2014, when they divorced so he could marry Robyn Brown and adopt her three children.

Meri announced her separation from Kody in January 2023, following in the footsteps of Janelle and Christine Brown.

At one point during the Oct. 20 pisode, Meri and Kody are having a discussion about their split when Kody says he wishes Meri would’ve made her choice to leave sooner.

Meri argues that her choice was to stay. “Had I wanted to leave sooner, I would have left sooner,” she said.

In a confessional, Kody appears to describe his relationship with Meri as “terrible” and lacking “emotional intamacy,” but he didn’t realize it until he was in a “normal relationship.”

“You know what really sucks? It’s not divorce that sucks. What sucks is marrying the wrong person because you don’t know,” he says to Meri.

Meri questions why she was the “wrong person,” but Kody walks back his statement.

“I’m not even saying that, Meri,” he replied. “All I know is that you and I have different timestamps on when we weren’t happy anymore.”

“What sucks is marrying the wrong person and not having the decency to tell her until 32 years later,” she said.
