When Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8th, her eldest son, King Charles III, took the British throne. The following day, he confirmed that Prince William and Kate Middleton would earn the titles Prince and Princess of Wales – as well as his wife earning the title Queen Consort Camila.
Now more than three months later, King Charles III is at it again with all three Royal family members earning new titles. Kate Middleton is being named an honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards – a title previously held by her husband, Prince William, who is now being named Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
As for Queen Consort Camila, she’s being appointed Colonel of the Grenadier Guards – a title that was previously held by Prince Andrew, one of King Charles’ brothers. Andrew was stripped of all military affiliations and royal patronages earlier this year amid his sexual abuse case, which was later settled.
The news comes a week after Kate Middleton hosted her annual Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey. The Royal Family was heavy in attendance, with King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla included, as they honored the late Queen and celebrated the selfless efforts of the community.
Middleton was also joined by William and two of their three kids – Prince George and Princess Charlotte. “Thank you to everyone who has helped make #TogetherAtChristmas so special, it was fantastic to celebrate inspiring individuals and outstanding organizations with you all,” she wrote on Instagram.
The Royal Family is going through a lot of changes this holiday season – being that it is their first holiday season without Queen Elizabeth II in 96 years. She lived a long life, one that included 70 years on the British throne, and built a legacy that will be remembered forever. Charles III has some fairly big shoes to fill.
King Charles Announces Trooping the Colour Parade
In addition to the new titles given to Camilla, William, and Kate, Charles III announced that his Trooping the Colour – his official birthday celebration – will be held on June 17, 2023. While he doesn’t turn 75 until November 14th, he’s following his mother’s tradition of celebrating their birthday in a warmer month.
The parade is rumored to include more than “1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians,” according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace. Charles and William are expected to ride on horseback during the celebration. It’ll be the first Trooping the Colour since Charles III took the throne.
The birthday celebration will come roughly six weeks after his official coronation – which is the act of placement or bestowal of a crown upon a monarch’s head. Reports suggest he’ll be fitted with St. Edward’s crown, which was originally made for King Charles II in 1661 and is being refitted for the King.
