Kim Kardashian Advocates for Father of Texas School Shooting Victim to be Temporarily Released From Prison

Of the 21 people killed in the mass shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, one of the victims is 10-year-old Eliahna Cruz Torres. Torres is expected to be laid to rest via her funeral this week. And Kim Kardashian had hoped to help bring a loved one the ability to say his final goodbye in person.

Sadly, while Torres has many loved ones mourning her loss, her father—as of right now—will not be able to attend his daughter’s funeral due to being incarcerated in Kentucky. According to TMZ, Torres’s father is currently serving 25-years in prison for a nonviolent drug offense.

Now, Kim Kardashian is hoping to use her platform to advocate for Torres’s father, in order to help him get the opportunity to be at his daughter’s funeral in person. “Her family are desperately hoping that her father, who is incarcerated for a nonviolent drug offense, be granted temporary release so that he can attend her funeral,” Kim wrote alongside a photo of Eliahna.

“I ask the Federal Bureau of Prisons to grant Eli Torres temporary release so that he can say his last goodbye to his baby girl. Every parent deserves that right,” Kim Kardashian continued. According to TMZ, Kim Kardashian isn’t the first person to request a temporary release, all of which have been denied.

TMZ also reports that the father has been given the option to watch the live-streamed version of the service if he is not granted permission to attend the funeral in person. While talking with The Houston Chronicle, the father admitted that his mistakes have now cost him so much more.

“I could have prevented this from happening, somehow, some way, as a father. … I could have stopped it somehow. Protected her,” he said. Eli Torres is currently an inmate at the McCreary United States Penitentiary, WYMT reports.

He is scheduled for release in February 2033. In the letter from Kentucky State Representative Attica Scott, which denied his first request for a compassionate release, Eli and Eliahana were just one week away from seeing each other in person before she was murdered.

Sadly, Kim’s plea came too late as Eliahana was officially laid to rest on June 2. According to her obituary, “Eliahna was a master of jests and loved making people laugh. At such a young age, she was nurturing and always putting others before herself. She had grown a love for playing softball and could spend hours watching TikTok videos.”

In addition to loving to make people laugh, “he was a loving and compassionate person,” the obituary continued. “She had the most beautiful smile that could light up your soul.”
