Khloe Kardashian Facing Backlash After Liking Meme Targeting the Kardashians’ Ownership of Blackness

Khloe Kardashian – along with the rest of her Kardashian-Jenner sisters – have been receiving an endless supply of criticism over the past 15 years for their behavior, habits, and lifestyle. More recently, Khloe received backlash for liking a video on Instagram that joked about her sister owning ‘blackness.’

The video, which was posted as a joke, features Kim Kardashian showing off some of her diamonds at a red carpet event. A fake audio recording of someone pretending to talk like Kim K was dubbed in the background of the video, which was mocking the billionaire for her history of culture appropriation.

“My favorite part of having these many diamonds is knowing just how much conflict went into getting them. So, these are from Wakanda – Wakanda forever – so now I own blackness,” the dubbed voice says in the video. When users saw that Khloe had liked the video, they were quick to share their thoughts.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian have both faced backlash in the past for a variety of accusations of fetishizing black women and appropriating black culture. For example, Khloe has been open about her preference of dating/being with black men over white men, making several comments in that regard through the years.

Perhaps most notably was in 2014, when Khloe shared a meme that contained a KKK joke. It was a photo of Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe Kardashian that was captioned “THE ONLY KKK TO EVER LET BLACK MEN IN.” Fans were outraged at her apparent comfortability with sharing a joke about the KKK.

As for Kim, she has faced her fair share of criticism for similar reasons. For example, she has caused outrage over her choice of hairstyles in the past – more specifically, her cornrows. Things escalated when she called them her ‘Bo Derek braids,’ referring to a white actress who wore a similar hairstyle in 1979.

There was also an incident in 2014 during a photoshoot with Jean-Paul Goude, where she appeared to reenact one of his older photos of a nude black woman – which was featured in his book titled Jungle Fever. The photo, shot by Goude, shows Kim Kardashian balancing a champagne glass on her butt.

Khloe Kardashian Also Receives Backlash for Her Parenting

Khloe Kardashian is a mother to two children – a son and daughter – both of which she shares with NBA player Tristan Thompson (one via surrogacy). With her history of cultural appropriation and fetishizing black women, many people have speculated that she’s not fit to raise a black child in today’s society.

In a reply to a Twitter comment in 2018, Khloe Kardashian talked about her parenting style. “I try to put myself in their shoes,” she said, before adding, “So instead of shaming I try to educate. In our household we do not see color. We see emotion and action. We see love. We feed off of energy.”

Her comment sparked a lot of criticism for ignoring the color of her daughter’s skin – implying that she’s also ignoring the struggles back people face every single day in the United States.
