It’s finally over. Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner – who have been married since 2004 – have settled their divorce, which was filed by Christine in May. After four months of battling it out in court, the former couple agreed to a settlement letter that was three pages long – according to a report by TMZ.
The settlement comes just a few days after a judge informed Baumgartner that the couple’s prenup, which was signed prior to their marriage, would be enforced. In the event Baumgartner decided to challenge the prenup, she would have to pay back more than $1 million and pay Costner’s legal fees.
It appears Baumgartner didn’t want to go through any of that, so she instead decided to settle and finalize the divorce. While the exact details of the settlement haven’t been released, TMZ was told that Christine ended up getting more out of the divorce than was owed – though not exactly what she was asking for.

Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner met in 1990, but didn’t start dating until 1999. They originally broke up several years later due to a disagreement, but reconciled and tied the knot in September 2004 in Aspen, Colorado. They remained together for 18 years until Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023.
Costner and Baumgartner welcomed four children – Cayden Wyatt, 16, Hayes Logan, 14, and Grace Avery, 13 – during their time together. They both asked for joint custody at the time of the divorce filing and it appears that will be granted, but it didn’t come without a child support battle that lasted 3 months.
At the beginning of that battle, Christine was asking for nearly $250,000 per month to ensure her children were able to ‘live a lifestyle relatively comparable to the one they enjoy when they are with their father.’ She was awarded temporary child support to the tune of $129,000 per month, but that didn’t last long.
Two months later, Christine and Kevin were back in court as she was asking for nearly $50,000 more in monthly child support – she asked for around $160,000 per month, while Kevin argued she could live off $50,000 per month. The courts sided with Kevin and ordered him to pay a little over $60,000 per month.
Christine Baumgartner Requested Kevin Costner Pay $885k in Legal Fees
Earlier this week, Christine Baumgartner (once again) tried to get Kevin Costner to fork over more money than was owed to her. This time, she was requesting he pay nearly $885,000 in legal fees. Of course, Costner’s legal team – spearheaded by Laura Wasser – called that request ‘nothing short of outrageous.’
Keep in mind, this comes after Kevin Costner had already forked over nearly $450,000 to help Christine pay legal fees – as well as the $1.5 million that was paid to her as a result of the prenup. Despite losing almost all of her legal battles thus far, she continued to try and get more than what she actually needed.

Still, she ended up getting more than what she was owed in the prenup – which is a small win considering she’s the one that filed the divorce. And while Kevin got win after win on the legal side of things, this divorce is something he never wanted in the first place – so he’s technically walking away with a big loss.
