Kelly Clarkson has made a lyric change to one of her most emotional songs.
For those of you who are Kelly Clarkson stans you probably already know which song we are about to talk about. Piece by Piece was a song Clarkson wrote about her own absent father, as well as her relationship with her now ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
Lately, Clarkson has been using her music to take a few shots at her former husband as several reports have revealed their break up has been anything but amicable. And while her latest change to the lyrics of her song Piece by Piece may be her most subtle dig yet, the change is definitely striking a chord with her fans.
Before singing the song for the audience at the Saturday showing of her Las Vegas residency, Clarkson introduced the song by saying, “This song I initially wrote just super hopeful, right? And well, sometimes hopeful turns into hopeless, so here we go, ‘Piece by Piece.’”
The original lyrics of the song read, “But piece by piece, he collected me up / Off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah / Piece by piece, he filled the holes that you burned in me / At 6 years old and you know, He never walks away / He never asks for money/He takes care of me / He loves me / Piece by piece, he restored my faith / That a man can be kind and a father could stay…”
However, on Saturday, she turned the emotional ballad into a song of self-empowerment, singing, “But piece by piece, I collected me up / Off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah / Piece by piece, I filled the holes that you burned in me / At 6 years old and you know, I just walk away / when they ask for money / I take care of me / ’cause I love me / I restored my faith / That a heart can still beat even if it breaks…”
But that’s not where the changes stop. Later in the song, she used to sing, “And she will never have to wonder her worth / Because unlike you, I’m gonna put her first and you know / He’ll never walk away / He’ll never break her heart / He’ll take care of things, he’ll love her / Piece by piece, he restored my faith / That a man can be kind and the father should be great…”
On Saturday, she sang, “And they’ll never have to wonder their worth / Because unlike you, I’m gonna put them first and you know / I never walk away / I never break their heart / I take care of things, when you leave scars / Piece by piece, I restored my faith / That a heart can still beat even if it breaks…”
