Kelly Clarkson‘s fans and even her inner circle are shocked by the news of her and her husband Brandon Blackstock‘s impending divorce. According to documents obtained by CNN, Clarkson cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the unexpected separation.
Blackstock and Clarkson share two children, 6-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington Alexander. Clarkson also helped raise Blackstock’s two children from a previous relationship. The former pair have been married since 2013.

Court Documents Reveal Kelly Clarkson Has Filed for a Divorce
As CNN reported, the documents also revealed that she and Blackstock had signed a prenup prior to getting married seven years ago. And the mom of two has also requested joint legal and physical custody of the children.
While on Instagram over the last several weeks, Clarkson revealed that she and her family have been staying at their home in Montana. It’s where she has been filming segments for her show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and for the remainder of the most recent season of The Voice.
Her last several Instagram posts were in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. However, she hasn’t shared anything new in at least a week. According to Entertainment Tonight, a source with knowledge of the situation claimed that Clarkson and Blackstock had hoped quarantine would help the problems in their marriage but ultimately made things worse for them.
“Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead, the change in environment was actually detrimental. The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse”
Clarkson had begun the paperwork weeks ago, the source revealed, after realizing divorce was their only option. And while Blackstock and Clarkson have chosen divorce, their focus will remain on their kids.
“Kelly and Brandon haven’t cut each other off; they are still talking to one another. They are both heartbroken, but their plan is to put the kids first. Their focus is on co-parenting and moving forward, as this is the last place they ever thought they would be. They both understand divorce is never easy for children, but Kelly and Brandon are great parents. It’ll just take time.”

According to ET, Clarkson also asked the courts to make sure their premarital agreement is enforced and also asked that her legal last name be changed back to Clarkson after having changed it to Blackstock. It’s unclear if Blackstock, a music manager, will remain apart of Clarkson’s professional life in spite of their decision to end their marriage.
