Katy Perry Gets Honest About The Aftermath Of Giving Birth

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom welcomed their first daughter, Daisy Dove last August and since — Perry has been very candid about her body post-pregnancy.

Perry first announced their daughter’s arrival in a sweet post to Instagram that mirrored Bloom’s post.

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” Katy and Orlando said in the announcement.

Katy has since continued to keep her pregnancy (and post-pregnancy) journey transparent — which includes sharing stories about her changing body.

That’s right — the entire gestational period is actually 40 weeks, which is about 10 months. And according to Planned Parenthood, this is when “your fetus reaches its final stage of development and you give birth.”

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live — Katy shared some of the lessons not many talk about on motherhood post-birth.

“What they don’t tell you is nobody talks about the first six weeks after you have the baby,” Katy said. “Oh my god, that’s wild! What a roller coaster!”

Perry went on to recall the day after giving birth — which happened to also be the release date for her fifth album, Smile.

“I had my fifth album coming out… You know, every other album cycle, there’d be some kind of celebration or party or dinner, whatever, you know,” Katy said.

She continued: “This time, I was giving birth to the greatest gift of all for me, and then my album came out the next day, and I was in the hospital, and I could not wipe my own butt.”

“I was like, This is the most unusual album release day for me,” she joked. But this is not the first time Katy has opened up about what motherhood is really like. Recently, she told Kelley Ripa how she has found life as a working mom to be “intense.”

“I did start filming American Idol Season 4 after I’d given birth, five weeks later,” Katy said during an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan. “And I didn’t plan that. But it was like, Oh my god! It was so intense, you know?”

“Giving birth, then going back to work and breastfeeding, like — holy crap!” she added. “This is what women do? Oh my god!”
