In case you haven’t heard, Katy Perry has a new album dropping in September, and it’s an album she’s describing as “very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”
On Monday, Sept. 16, the “Dark Horse” singer continued promoting the release in an interview with Mike Adam of Audacy, and was asked if she ever turns to her family members for musical advice or opinions.
While she does let them listen to bits and pieces of the album, she admits she doesn’t play it in full and spares them from having to attend a listening party, which they wouldn’t have much interest in anyway.

“They’ve had enough of me. I mean, they’re fine, but like, my family, they’re telling me to move or take the trash out,” she says. “They’re sick of it. It’s family, they’re just going to be real. I don’t do a listening party.”
Perry, 39, has a four-year-old daughter named Daisy Dove with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, but she is also a stepmom to Bloom’s 13-year-old son, Flynn, who he shares with model Miranda Kerr.
And believe it or not, it’s Flynn that Katy Perry turns to the most for musical advice.
“I’ll play things to Orlando’s son, who’s 13, and he has a really good ear,” Perry said to Adam during her Audacy interview, much to everyone’s surprise. “He’s probably the best person out of my whole family.”
Flynn has taken a strong liking to certain songs
Perry went on to reveal a memory from several years ago when she let Flynn listen to “Never Really Over” before releasing it in 2019. “Yeah, this is good,” he said when asked what he thought about it.
In fact, the two seem to have similar tastes in music.
“He’s got good taste,” she continued. “He loves this song called ‘All the Love,’ which is on 143. And that’s like one of my favorite songs that I wrote.”

But it’s not just Flynn who takes a strong liking to Perry’s music.
With her daughter, Daisy, turning four years old last month, she’s finally starting to come out of her shell. And that was apparent when Katy revealed one story about Daisy in a July interview with The One Show.
“She actually just started singing ‘Roar.’ On the flip side, she’s also singing ‘Peacock,’ and now I know what every parent went through in 2008,” Perry joked. “And I’m sorry!”
In fact, Daisy is featured on one of Perry’s songs on her new album, People reports.
Katy Perry releasing newest album on September 20
Perry’s last album, Smile, was released on August 28, 2020, just a few days after her daughter was born.
Now that she’s no longer an American Idol judge, she has had more time to focus on her music career, as well as being a mother, and it has culminated into an upbeat, catchy, dance party-like album.
143 consists of 11 songs and includes features from JID, 21 Savage, Kim Petras, and Doechii. Three singles have already been released, including “Woman’s World,” “Lifetimes,” and “I’m His, He’s Mine.”
Here’s what Katy Perry had to say of the album in an April interview with Access Hollywood:
“Sometimes artists are like, ‘Oh, that’s boring, you want to make music from kind of like a tougher place,’ but actually it’s very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”
