In 2017, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom took a break from their relationship before reconnecting, getting engaged, and now they are expecting a child together. However, during their time apart in 2017, Perry hit rock bottom.
In an interview with SiriusXM’s CBC Radio One, Perry explained that when she and Bloom split, not only did her relationship go south but her career also made an unexpected change that “broke her in half.” “My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up, and up, and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic.”

Then on top of breaking up with Bloom, the singer said she just crashed.
“I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be and then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed.”
Thankfully, Perry said it was the gratitude she had that saved her life, “because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped.” Her faith was also something that helped her find happiness again.
“It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way. And be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time.”
Now being grateful is something she leans on whenever she’s feeling down and out. “I found ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, ‘I am grateful, I am grateful!’ even though I am in a s— mood.”
