As the royal family continues to prepare for the moment when Prince Charles becomes King of England, Prince William and Kate Middleton may also experience some changes too. Currently, Prince Charles holds the title of The Prince of Wales.
When Charles becomes King, he will have the opportunity to give his old title to his oldest son, a moment that is likely to take place the Daily Record reports. And if that is the case, that means Kate Middleton will likely become the Princess of Wales.

This may be bittersweet for Prince Williams, and Prince Harry for that matter, because the last person to hold the title of Princess of Wales was William and Harry’s mother, Princess Diana. As the Daily Record reports, out of respect for Diana, Camilla, who Charles married after divorcing Diana, declined to take the title out of respect for the People’s Princess.
A source told the Telegraph that watching Kate assume the title of Princess of Wales is sure to “be a bit of a bittersweet moment. This is her son and his wife, so in some ways, it will be coming full circle—but it will also be a poignant reminder of what we all lost.”
This August will mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. She was 36 when she was involved in the fatal car crash in Paris.
While Kate Middleton is often compared to the mother-in-law she never had the pleasure of meeting, she seems to take joy in representing little pieces of William’s mother, especially with her wardrobe. There have been countless times over the years when Kate has been photographed wearing fashion that closely resembled items Diana wore and even wearing jewelry owned by Diana herself.
William proposed with the same diamond and sapphire ring Charles gave Diana when they got engaged. She still wears it to this day.
As Mamas Uncut has previously reported, Queen Elizabeth has been dealing with quite a few health issues over the last several months. Most recently, the Queen battled covid-19 and is currently battling mobility issues which resulted in Prince Charles covering the State Opening of Parliament.
During her 70-year reign, she has only missed the opening of parliament three times. Twice because she was pregnant and this most recent time.
“The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday.
“At Her Majesty’s request, and with the agreement of the relevant authorities, The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge also in attendance.”
The monarch has a large celebration planned to commemorate the Queen’s 70 years of reign. The celebration is set to begin the first week of June and if these health issues continue, it’s unclear if the Queen will be able to attend many of the festivities planned.
