Kate Middleton Shares Full Diagnosis: ‘A Huge Shock’

A close family friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales is speaking out, talking about the “resilience” of Kate Middleton and Prince Williams children.

While talking with People about Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the family friend said, “You take heart from the extraordinary resilience of children,” adding it’s the smiles from their three little ones that have helped Kate and William through this trying time.

“Having fun together when they can is very important,” the insider told People. “The children are at the center of their world.”

UPDATE: A Kensington Palace spokesperson has shared an update statement one day after Princess Kate revealed she has cancer.

“The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the U.K., across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”

A palace source has also explained to People why Kate Middleton shared her cancer diagnosis without Prince William by her side. “It is a message from the princess about her health, and she wanted to personally deliver the message on her own,” the source explained.

But William not being on camera should not be taken as a lack of support. “William is extremely proud of his wife for the courage and strength she has shown not just this week but since her surgery in January, ” the source continued to tell People. “Now more than ever, he’s focused on ensuring his wife has the privacy she needs to fully recover and that his children are shielded from the understandable interest in the news that has been shared.”

Kate Middleton shared a major personal development.

In a video shared with the world, Middleton announced that she was diagnosed with cancer. It was a diagnosis that was “a huge shock” to herself and her family.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” Kate explained.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

As she continued, the princess thanked well-wishers for their encouraging words and “wonderful messages of support.”

Kate Middleton also addressed the secrecy over the last few months. The mom of three explained that she and Prince William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.”

Their focus, understandably, has been on George, Charlotte, and Louis, making sure they fully understand what Kate is going through. “But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

Kate continued, thanking William, calling him “a great source of comfort and reassurance too.”

Several people have since spoken out in Kate’s defense slamming the conspiracy theories for forcing Kate’s hand with this statement. “90210” star Shannen Doherty was one of those people:
