In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Kate Hudson defended her blended family and relationship history, which includes three children with three fathers. While she knows it’s not the traditional way of building a family, she doubles down on it being her way of building a family and she takes pride in it.
She spoke about the importance of co-parenting and the father being there for the children – alluding to her own experience as a child. She was born to Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, but they divorced when she was just 18 months old. From that point on, she was raised by her mother’s boyfriend, Kurt Russell.
“I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that we didn’t know our dad,” said Kate Hudson, who has a 46-year-old brother and several other half-siblings.

Kate Hudson first married Chris Robinson on New Year’s Eve in 2000 and later had a child with him in 2004 – a son named Ryder. “With Ryder, our relationship is so special because I grew up with him. The big learning period of my life and becoming a woman happened as I was being a mother,” she said.
She was just 24 years old when she had Ryder and while that’s a little too young for some people, she feels she was ready at that point. “It was a choice. We wanted to have a baby and it felt instinctual. I was very attached to him and vice versa. I took him everywhere,” she said, speaking of her eldest son, Ryder.
Her divorce from Robinson was finalized in 2007 and she began dating Matt Bellamy in 2010. The former couple got engaged in 2011 and had their first and only child a few months later – a son named Bingham, or just ‘Bing.’ Three years later, the former couple ended their engagement and continued as co-parents.
In fact, Kate Hudson raved about her co-parenting situation with Bellamy. “For me it’s like, you loved this person. That doesn’t just go away, but you can re-establish a different kind of love. You can have an amazing time with an ex-partner because you’re really only focused on the love of your child,” she said.
Kate Hudson is Now Focused On Life With Danny Fujikawa
Kate Hudson began dating Danny Fujikawa in December 2016 – the two had known each other for nearly 15 years. On October 2, 2018, she had her first (and only, so far) child with Fujikawa – a daughter named Rani Rose. Three years later, in September 2021, the couple finally announced their engagement.
If you were hoping for a quick wedding, don’t hold your breath. In her interview with The Sunday Times, she confirmed the couple is in no rush to get married. “I hope we get married! We’re not in a hurry. The last thing I need right now is to plan a wedding on top of everything else, but I’m excited about it.”
Right now, she’s enjoying the moments she’s having with Fujikawa and their daughter. “Last night he was going through some old footage on his phone of him and Rani and it melted my heart. He’s such a wonderful dad and stepdad,” she said – she had a bright smile on her face whenever she talked of him.

She’s also thankful for the relationships she has with Robinson and Bellamy – adding that they make co-parenting worth it. She even has a good relationship with Bellamy’s wife – who also shares a child with Bellamy. They often vacation with each other, kids included – so it’s a happy blended family!
