On April 14, former reality television star Kara Keough Bosworth, who is the daughter of Real Housewives of Orange County star Jeana Keough, revealed that she and husband Kyle‘s infant son, McCoy Casey Bosworth, passed away.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, McCoy’s passing was the result of complications that arose during his birth. As Bosworth wrote in an Instagram post, McCoy was born on April 6. “During the course of his birth, he experienced shoulder dystocia and a compressed umbilical cord. He joined our Heavenly Father and will live forever in the hearts of his loving parents, his adoring sister, and those that received his life-saving gifts.”
According to the American Pregnancy Association, “Umbilical cord compression occurs when there is pressure put on the umbilical cord and can either occur during pregnancy or during labor. And it happens in approximately 1 in 10 deliveries.” Shoulder dystocia “is a birth injury that happens when one or both of a baby’s shoulders get stuck inside the mother’s pelvis during labor,” the March of Dimes reports.
Kara Keough Bosworth Brings Home the Ashes of Her Newborn Son
Roughly a week after sharing the heartbreaking news, Bosworth and her family created a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to raise money for the March of Dimes and shared a photo of McCoy’s little feet along with it. As the mom wrote on the campaign, the money will be going toward “helping encourage birth equity among all races, and from all socioeconomic backgrounds, offering full-term loss support to parents, and supporting NICU parents during and after hospital stays.”
Additionally, Bosworth shared a deeply emotional image of the box that holds her son’s ashes. As Mamas Uncut reported, Bosworth revealed that she and Kyle made the decision to donate their son’s organs to those who need them.
In her post, she shared the words she wrote and read aloud to the organ/tissue procurement team in his honor. “Tonight, we join together to honor this little savior’s gifts of life. Through him, may others find new hope and profound healing… and may he live again through them. May his legacy shine in the form of lifetimes aplenty – lives filled with laughter, compassion, energy, love, and most of all gratitude. May it be said that McCoy Casey Bosworth left this world in a better place, for a better place…. that he made an impact… that he was an answered prayer… that he was a hero. May angels lead him in. Thank you, McCoy.”
