Kim Kardashian West is breaking her silence following her husband’s impromptu rally and his outbursts on Twitter where he admitted to trying to file for a divorce. On July 22, Kim took to her Instagram story to ask her and Kanye West‘s fans to be understanding of what he is going through.
Kim’s decision to speak out on Kanye’s battle with bipolar disorder came after the rapper tweeted, and then later deleted, that he has been trying to divorce Kim, the mother of his four children, after 6 years of marriage.
“I’ve been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for ‘prison reform,” Kanye wrote on Twitter. “Meek is my man and was respectful That’s my dog Kim was out of line I’m worth 5 billion dollars and more than that through Christ But ya’ll ain’t listen to MJ and now ya’ll believe them???”
According to People, Kanye was referring to a moment in November 2018 when Kim consulted with rapper Meek Mill during a criminal justice reform summit.
Shortly after Kanye’s outbursts on Twitter, Kim took to Instagram to make a statement of her own.
“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”
Kim continued by saying although she understands her husband “is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions,” he has been through a lot and those emotions are only heightened by his battle with bipolar disorder.
“He is a brilliant and complicated person, who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother and has to deal with the pressures and isolation that is heightened by his bipolar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with is intentions.”
“Living with bipolar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some,” Kim added. But that is just all “part of his genius.” Kim then suggested that while people give grace to mental health as a whole, people should start giving that same grace “to the individuals who are living with it in times when they need it the most.”
The wife and mother then thanked those how have offered them their well wishes and reached out to them in support of what they are going through as a family. It’s unclear if Kim and his children have been with Kanye as he continues to tweet out his feeling to his millions of followers.
