Genius, Kailyn Lowry from Teen Mom 2 is also an “anti-vaxxer” who decided to tweet her opinion about a potential novel coronavirus vaccine recently. As we’re all witnessing a global pandemic destroy lives, the economy, and cause irrevocable damage around the world, this mom wants you to know that she will “absolutely not” be vaccinating herself or her children from the virus if/when a vaccine is developed.
The reality TV star who’s pregnant with her fourth child responded to fans’ tweets a few days ago and immediately sparked outrage and controversy online.
Fans and foes of Lowry had a lot of thoughts to share after she stirred the anti-vax pot.
It all started when a fan asked the star if she’d be vaccinating her kids against COVID-19. Lowry replied, “Absolutely not.”
The tweet warranted a swift online response. “49,000 people have died and almost 1 million infected so far by Coronavirus. I know someone personally fighting for their life with this virus. I just can’t,” one person tweeted.
Lowry tweeted in response, “Understood. I know people as well. That’s why I’m staying home.”
Many fans were disappointed by the decision.
As you can imagine, Lowry has an unpopular opinion that evoked impassioned responses from her many fans. One wrote, “Been a fan and a follower for years. Always admired your tenacity but your response is absolutely irresponsible in a time like this. I just can’t call myself a fan anymore.”
Lowry decided against vaccinating her youngest son Lux Russell, 2, last year which also angered many of her fans. That news was revealed in her podcast Coffee Convos in which she said her oldest son Isaac, 10, had been fully vaccinated but her other son Lincoln, 6, was only partially vaccinated.

Lowry said that each parent has to do what’s best for their own family.
“I guess the only thing I can really say and continue to stand for is to parent how it’s best for your child and family,” Lowry explained to InTouch after the initial backlash. “People don’t love everything I do, but I don’t shove my beliefs down anyone else’s throat. I know what’s best for my kids, and other parents know what’s best for theirs.”
Does she though? We know science is hard for some, but multiple studies have concluded that there is no link between vaccines and autism. It’s a conspiracy theory and Russian intelligence operatives have been pushing it online for years in the hopes it weakens the US.
The CDC has definitively concluded that vaccines do not cause autism.
When a parent thinks she is doing the right thing for her child, it’s hard to persuade her otherwise.
Most moms are fierce protectors of their children and only want what’s best for their child. We know Lowry has good intentions, but the consequences of her actions could be devastating. The anti-vax movement is dangerous. Last May, the country experienced the largest measles outbreak in 25 years. Dr. Anthony Fauci said at the time, “These outbreaks are due to the anti-vaccine movement.”
Children who are not vaccinated are not only at risk themselves, they put other kids at risk. For instance, infants who are too young to be vaccinated themselves could be exposed at a doctor’s office or hospital where a person with measles is getting care. People with weakened immune systems can get needlessly exposed as well. Over 100 cancer patients in Pittsburgh were exposed by a research student with measles in 2014. Every outbreak costs the federal and local governments millions of dollars to contain.
There are many reasons to vaccinate and we hope Lowry has a change of heart.
Vaccines make the world a safer, healthier place. A COVID-19 vaccine will be welcomed by many after it’s been developed and tested. As we’re all witnessing first-hand the devastating effects the virus is having on our nation, it’s unbelievable that anyone would be so irresponsible about the prospect of protecting themselves and their children from potential death.
We hope that Lowry has a change of heart on this particular vaccine and all others. It’s a dangerous stance for any parent to take.
