In July 2019, Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband Austin Forsyth revealed that they had suffered a miscarriage at 20-weeks along. In a post shared on Instagram, Joy-Anna learned that doctors couldn’t find a viable heartbeat during her 20-week checkup.
Along with a photo of her and Austyn holding their late-daughter, Joy-Anna began by recalling the words the heard from their doctor that day. “So this is your baby’s heart (pointing to the ultrasound screen). I don’t hear a heartbeat or see any movement.”

The same day the learned that their baby was no longer alive, they also learned that they were expecting a baby girl. The mom continued, writing, “Although we don’t understand why, God has given us unexplainable peace and comfort during this very difficult time.”
Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth Are Pregnant With Their Rainbow Baby, Nine Months After Miscarriage
“Yes, it still hurts and we have cried countless tears, but we know that we can trust the Lord. In the words of King David after the loss of his baby, ‘I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me’ (2 Sam 12:23). We don’t grieve as those who have no hope because we trust that we will see this little one again.”
The couple, who are parents to a 2-year-old boy named Gideon, revealed that they choose to name their late-daughter, Annabell Elise. Now, 9 months later, Joy-Anna and Austin have revealed that she is pregnant with their rainbow baby.
In a YouTube video, revealing how they told their family, Joy-Anna shared that they are due the second week of August. They also shared that there were some complications at the start of her pregnancy and explained some of the fears they were experiencing given their past.
“I am currently 8 weeks along and soon after we found out we were pregnant, I started spotting quite a bit. So [I] called the doctor, went in and got bloodwork done. He basically said that some of my numbers were looking a little bit off. My HCG numbers were really high and he said there were just some concerns.”
Joy-Anna continued by explaining how her recent miscarriage and the fears that ultimately stemmed from that were making it difficult to enjoy the first weeks of her pregnancy. “It’s just been really hard because on one side we want to be so excited for this baby and at the same time, we have all these fears of like, well what if it’s like, going through all of this again after going through it with Annabell. It’s been a very difficult few weeks.”

Thankfully, things are going well for Joy-Anna and their growing unborn baby, who is now five months along. They also revealed the gender of their newest little one.
“We are having a girl. And I did not believe it. I just started crying. I don’t even know what to say. Yeah, we’re having a girl and she’s due August 19th.” Austin then added, “I’m so glad we’re having a little girl.”
After announcing the pregnancy publicly, Joy wrote on Instagram, “It’s been quite the crazy journey these last few months, but we are so thankful that mom and baby are healthy!” Congratulations to Joy-Anna, Austin, Gideon, and their growing family.
